“Don’t focus on the result of moving faster. Focus on the process, so you are moving faster naturally. That way, we can still move faster even when we get older.“
Being able to move fast is important in martial arts but in most cases, people try to move fast by tensing their muscles.
This could make you even slower, you can be rushed then get attacked by your opponent, wasting energy and getting tired.
Most people rely on muscle strength to try to move faster, but that’s like putting the break and accelerator on at the same time.
That way, you pressure your body, so it makes you tired and might cause injuries too.
You can’t do like this when you get older.
Instead of that, we should focus on our mind and body to follow the laws of nature, and the result of that, we will be moving faster.
Don’t use unnecessary strength, don’t make unnecessary movements, don’t rush, stay calm, focus on Tanden breathing, and try to move properly.
By focusing on those points, it makes you faster and makes you feel like your opponent is slower.
Don’t focus on the result of moving faster.
Focus on the process, so you are moving faster naturally.
That way, we can still move faster even when we get older.
Of course, you can’t do all those points straight away.
That’s why we need to train and practice for a long time.
Now, more important speed in martial arts is a fast reflex and fast reaction.
Having good reflexes and fast reactions is more important than how fast your body can move.
In the next blog, I’m going to write about speed of reflex and reaction, and also how to develop them.
