SAW Powerful Double Leg Takedown

“All SAW techniques are designed to be effective in real street self defence, so they can be used directly in MMA-style fighting without modification.”

A double-leg takedown is a very powerful and effective takedown technique in grappling matches, MMA fight, and even in street self defence situations.

Because it’s such a powerful technique, it can be a one-hit knockout in a real fight and is very dangerous.

But, if not executed correctly, it can be defended against, resulting in being put on the bottom, getting a guillotine choke, or being countered with a strike.

However, if the technique is executed correctly, these worries are eliminated.

And in SAW, we practice many prevention and follow-up techniques against those counters.

For example, many people would think of the guillotine choke as a very common counter to a double-leg takedown.

A poor takedown involves the head being down, the back being bent, and stopping the body’s momentum from poor footwork, making it easy to get caught in a guillotine choke.

However, it is very difficult to apply a guillotine choke against a skilled tackler.

To apply a guillotine choke to someone whose head is properly raised, you must lean your body forward.

This naturally leads to leaning your body against your opponent like giving your body to them, making you easier to lift.

Furthermore, if the opponent maintains a straight posture and momentum, defending becomes extremely difficult.

In a real fight, being lifted onto someone’s shoulders is usually the end.

Being lifted that high and slammed against concrete ground is often fatal.

Also, many people fail when trying to directly apply sport grappling tackles in MMA fights.

It’s a bit difficult to use techniques developed to win on a soft mat in self-defence,

And the distance in sport grappling and MMA fights is quite different.

Controlling distance is crucial in any fight, not just tackles, and without understanding this, you’ll easily be defended against or countered.

All SAW techniques are designed to be effective in real street self defence, so they can be used directly in MMA-style fighting without modification.

Training always includes drills simulating street self defence and MMA fights.

For example, controlling distance, avoiding hitting your knee hard on the ground when tackling, and always lifting your opponent to be able to slam them to the ground are all important.

Distance, timing, posture, footwork, and keeping your driving body are crucial.

This drill strengthens your legs and core, which will be useful for other techniques as well.

So master the correct tackle in this way, and you can use it not only in grappling matches but also in MMA and self-defence.
