Evolve your spirit and body for a life time

MMA ITO DOJO Striking Technique Part 2, “No weight divisions”

“In the old days, they developed “How to beat bigger and stronger opponent”, but in these days, this kind of concepts and techniques are lost in modern martial arts because it has became too much sports orientated.”

In my last blog, I was talking about “You are not wearing gloves” in street situations.

This time, I’m going to talk about “No weight divisions” in street situations.

It’s very hard to beat bigger and stronger opponents.

That’s why we have weight divisions to make it safe and fair in competitions.

But there is no weight divisions in old martial arts, and of course in street situations, you have to still be able to protect yourself from bigger and stronger opponents.

So, in the old days, they developed “How to beat bigger and stronger opponent”, but

in these days, this kind of concepts and techniques are lost in modern martial arts because it has became too much sports orientated.

I want to revive and even evolve these concepts and techniques.

There are a lot of different strategies if you are against a bigger and stronger opponent, but the MMA ITO DOJO striking technique does not really rely on muscle strength too much.

It is all by following the laws of nature, so even when you are against bigger and stronger opponents, you don’t have to fight with your muscle strength.

If we follow the laws of nature, we don’t feel the opponent’s weight and strength much, but that doesn’t mean we don’t need any muscle strength.

Of course, martial arts is using our body, so we need good muscle strength and it’s great to be strong, but there is a pitfall there.

People who are very strong and have big muscles, tend to rely on their muscle strength too much.

When they fight, they tend to be very stiff, and try to overpower their opponent with their strength.

If you tense your muscles too much and be stiff, it will be very hard to use the nature power, and hard to learn proper technique.

So, we should rather try to attain the body which helps us get the nature power more.

There are a few special exercises and training to be able to attain that kind of body.

One example is the “TANDEN Breathing” exercises.

These exercises enable our mind and body to follow the laws of nature.
