The “Budo” footwork

“You will also feel better balance too which is one the most important thing in stand up fighting because if you are off balance, you will lose control, and also you don’t want to fall down to the ground if you are in street situation.”

To get better with these kind of combinations, you have to learn the proper “Budo” (Japanese martial arts) footwork first.

The “Budo” footwork is a little bit different from the sports fighting footwork such as boxing or Muay Thai’s footwork.

What I mean about the “Budo” footwork is to not rely on physical strength but rely on breathing techniques and connect with the “Centre of our body (Tanden)” more, so you can generate stronger power and speed with less effort and less impact to our body.

It would take a long time to explain about the “TANDEN Breathing” technique, and I have already explained many times in my other blogs and Youtube videos, so I will tell you just one example how to connect with the “Centre of our body (Tanden)” when you use the “Budo” footwork today.

In sports fighting such as boxing or Muay Thai, they usually teach you to lift your heels up and use the calf muscles to move around.

People might think they can move faster that way, but calf muscles are very small muscles, so they can’t take too much impact, and they can’t generate strong power.

A lot of people injure their calf muscles by doing the sports fighting footwork.

The “Budo” footwork, we use flat feet and focus on heels.

People might think they get heavy and slow footwork if they use flat feet.

It’s actually other way around if you know how to use them properly and develop the connection to the “Centre of our body (Tanden)” by doing the “TANDEN Breathing Exercises”.

If you put your heels down on the ground and make flat feet, you can use your thigh muscles to generate power which is bigger and stronger muscles, and can connect with the “Centre of our body (Tanden)”.

You will also feel better balance too which is one of the most important thing in stand up fighting because if you are off balance, you will lose control, and also you don’t want to fall down to the ground if you are in street situation.
