“In martial arts techniques, knuckles are not the only weapon you got.”
The striking technique you will learn at the MMA ITO DOJO might be similar to Boxing or Muay Thai, but slightly different from them.
Of course you can use it for Boxing and Muay Thai fights, but the MMA ITO DOJO striking technique works great for MMA fights and best in street self defence situations.
In street situations,
1, You are not wearing gloves
2, No weight divisions
3, Your opponent is not necessarily only one
4, They might have weapons
1, You are not wearing gloves,
If you are not wearing thick hand wraps and big gloves, you must make proper knuckles and punch properly on right spot, otherwise it wouldn’t be as effective and also you will break your knuckles straight away.
Because the forehead is a very hard bone, and if they block your punch, and if you hit their elbow or something, you could break your knuckle straight away which means you can’t punch anymore.
That’s why it’s a good idea to condition your knuckles a bit too, but at the same time, you should keep in your mind this.
“In martial arts techniques, knuckles are not the only weapon you got.”
You can also use palm punch (Shotei) or finger strikes to the eyes (Barate and Metsuki), etc in street situations, so you don’t have to use your knuckles.
Probably those are better than knuckles anyway.
